Chai Hebrew is a Jewish educational program in Brooklyn for children ages 4–13, providing a rich and engaging Judaic and Hebrew learning experience.
We dream that every Jewish child has access to an inspiring Jewish education that nurtures pride in their heritage and cultivates a strong sense of belonging within the Jewish community.
We believe that every Jewish child deserves the opportunity to experience and appreciate Jewish holidays, explore Jewish history and values in a relatable way, become comfortable with the language of their ancestors, and connect with Jewish traditions and prayer.
At Chai Hebrew, children are part of a vibrant Jewish community where learning is meaningful, friendships flourish, and Jewish life is relevant, engaging, and fun.
Through open discussions, hands-on activities, and guided explorations, students connect with Judaism in ways that are personal, meaningful, and authentic. Our commitment to excellence drives us to continually innovate and refine our curriculum, providing an unparalleled after-school experience where Jewish children truly love being Jewish.
Chai Hebrew is a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental community. We welcome Jewish families from all backgrounds, and no affiliation is necessary. We celebrate the uniqueness of every child and family while emphasizing the Jewish values of community, kindness, joy, tradition, and belonging.
Chai Hebrew staff are marked by their warmth, enthusiasm, and genuine love for children. They are carefully chosen for their passion for working with young Jewish children, their ability to make learning fun, and their desire to share the joy, meaning, and beauty of Judaism. Our staff create a warm and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, inspired, and excited to be part of the community.
Born and raised in Park Slope, Shaina has been an active member of the local Jewish community since childhood. Passionate about strengthening Jewish identity, connection, and engagement, she has spent years creating meaningful Jewish experiences for children and families.
As a social worker, she understands the value of nurturing a strong sense of identity, belonging, and community in every child. Through warmth, creativity, and genuine connection, she strives to help children discover the beauty and meaning of Judaism while developing a strong sense of Jewish pride and belonging.
When she’s not planning programs or teaching, Shaina can often be found enjoying Prospect Park, sharing Shabbat meals with community members, and spending time with family and friends. She looks forward to welcoming your family to Chai Hebrew and sharing the joy of Jewish life together.
Our Jewish Heritage curriculum helps children develop a strong sense of Jewish identity, pride, and belonging by exploring the rich history, traditions, values, and culture of the Jewish people.
Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities, stories, games, art, music, and creative projects, students discover the holidays and mitzvot, learn about the heroes and heroines who shaped our history, and develop a meaningful connection to Israel and the global Jewish community.
More than learning about Judaism, students are encouraged to reflect on what Judaism means in their own lives. They explore Jewish values, discuss real-life situations, and discover how the lessons of our heritage can guide their choices, relationships, and actions.
Throughout the curriculum, children learn the importance of being a mensch—a compassionate, responsible, and caring individual—and are empowered to take pride in their Jewish identity and make a positive impact on the world around them.
Jewish heritage has never been more relevant, meaningful, and alive.
HEBREW IS THE LANGUAGE OF OUR PEOPLE.
Mastering Hebrew will enable your child to connect with their heritage and meaningfully participate in Jewish experiences.
At Chai Hebrew we prepare Your children to fully experience Hebrew through our syllabus of reading, writing and learning basic conversational Hebrew.
Our motivational Aleph Champ reading program enables children to master Hebrew reading skillfully and quickly – at their own pace.
We absolutely love Chai Hebrew! Being a part of this wonderful community has been an incredible experience, and we feel so lucky. Our daughter has been attending since she was in kindergarten, and our son can’t wait to start next fall. Every week during pick up our daughter comes out jumping with joy, showing off her projects, sharing what she’s learned, and talking about her amazing friends and favorite snacks. She looks forward to attending every week and gets so excited to join the community and holiday events. Chai Hebrew has given her lifelong friendships, confidence, and a deep sense of pride, we couldn’t have asked for more!
The Chai Hebrew Staff is creative, passionate and caring. Our children love the hands -on joyful learning (nothing like the Hebrew school experience we remember!) Chai Hebrew provides an accepting community that brings more Judaism into our home each week. Our children now possess not only a thorough understanding of Judaism (including all of its holidays, traditions, and rituals), but they also carry a tremendous amount of pride in their Jewish identity. For us, that is PRICELESS!
