Welcome to Chai Hebrew

Chai Hebrew is an innovative after-school program where Judaism comes alive in a fun, engaging, and educational setting. We have created a space where a diverse community of Jewish children experiences the joy of Jewish holidays, gains an appreciation for their heritage, and develops fluency in Hebrew.

Who We Are

We Are Not the Hebrew School You Grew Up With.

Chai Hebrew is a Jewish educational program in Brooklyn for children ages 4–13, providing a rich and engaging Judaic and Hebrew learning experience.

We dream that every Jewish child has access to an inspiring Jewish education that nurtures pride in their heritage and cultivates a strong sense of belonging within the Jewish community.

We believe that every Jewish child deserves the opportunity to experience and appreciate Jewish holidays, explore Jewish history and values in a relatable way, become comfortable with the language of their ancestors, and connect with Jewish traditions and prayer.

At Chai Hebrew, children are part of a vibrant Jewish community where learning is meaningful, friendships flourish, and Jewish life is relevant, engaging, and fun.

Through open discussions, hands-on activities, and guided explorations, students connect with Judaism in ways that are personal, meaningful, and authentic. Our commitment to excellence drives us to continually innovate and refine our curriculum, providing an unparalleled after-school experience where Jewish children truly love being Jewish.

What We Believe

Welcoming and
non-judgmental Community

Chai Hebrew is a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental community. We welcome Jewish families from all backgrounds, and no affiliation is necessary. We celebrate the uniqueness of every child and family while emphasizing the Jewish values of community, kindness, joy, tradition, and belonging.

Each Child Is a World

Our philosophy is rooted in the Talmudic teaching that each person is an entire world. Every child is endowed with a unique soul and infinite potential. We do not believe in one-size-fits-all education and strive to meet each student where they are, nurturing their individual strengths and helping them thrive.

Judaism as a Way of Life

We do not view Judaism as a collection of rules or rituals, but as a meaningful and vibrant way of life. For our staff, Judaism isn’t simply a subject they teach; it’s a way of life they live and share with their students. Through engaging lessons, meaningful discussions, hands-on experiences, and interactive activities, students experience Judaism in a way that is personal, relevant, and real. We encourage curiosity, welcome questions, and foster genuine connection.

Joyous Jewish Living

Joy is the heartbeat of Jewish life. Chai Hebrew has created an experiential learning environment infused with warmth, excitement, and joy. We share the beauty of our traditions and the richness of Jewish life in ways that are meaningful, relevant, and full of Joy.

Community

Chai Hebrew is more than an after school program. We are a Jewish community for children and their families. Through Shabbat dinners, holiday celebrations, family events, and shared experiences, we create opportunities to build friendships, strengthen connections, and celebrate Jewish life together.

Our Staff

Chai Hebrew staff are marked by their warmth, enthusiasm, and genuine love for children. They are carefully chosen for their passion for working with young Jewish children, their ability to make learning fun, and their desire to share the joy, meaning, and beauty of Judaism. Our staff create a warm and nurturing environment where every child feels valued, supported, inspired, and excited to be part of the community.

Curriculum

Jewish Heritage

Our Jewish Heritage curriculum helps children develop a strong sense of Jewish identity, pride, and belonging by exploring the rich history, traditions, values, and culture of the Jewish people.

Through engaging discussions, hands-on activities, stories, games, art, music, and creative projects, students discover the holidays and mitzvot, learn about the heroes and heroines who shaped our history, and develop a meaningful connection to Israel and the global Jewish community.

More than learning about Judaism, students are encouraged to reflect on what Judaism means in their own lives. They explore Jewish values, discuss real-life situations, and discover how the lessons of our heritage can guide their choices, relationships, and actions.

Throughout the curriculum, children learn the importance of being a mensch—a compassionate, responsible, and caring individual—and are empowered to take pride in their Jewish identity and make a positive impact on the world around them.
Jewish heritage has never been more relevant, meaningful, and alive.
